Mugler Cologne: Thierry Mugler's Take On Fresh and Clean Scents
If you think that all Thierry Mugler’s fragrances are composed of good-enough-to-eat notes then you haven’t discovered Mugler Cologne yet. Call it the antithesis of Angel. Mugler Cologne has no traces of anything gourmand; it's green, clean and soapy just like the soap that caught Thierry Mugler's fancy while he was in Morocco. Perfumer Alberto Morillas designed this cologne and the notes are neroli, bergamot, petit grain, African orange, white musk and a mysterious “S” note. This cologne is unlike Angel. There’s none of the food-y accords that beset Angel and its flankers.
The fresh approach of this cologne is reminiscent of the 80s when soapy accords in men’s fragrances ruled the perfumery. The green accords is like fresh cut grass. The light and easygoing feeling it brings out is comforting, more like cozy and laid-back in the long run. There’s also some zesty-herbal aroma that adds to the masculinity factor although some women do fancy wearing this cologne as well. The mysterious "S" note is probably sage, the aromatic herb that brings out the flavor in our food. As for the base, the white musk provides a nice background to the entire composition.
The problem with this fragrance is longevity. Cologne, per se, is a diluted version of the more potent parfum, eau de toilette and eau de parfum and that could be the reason for its short-lived sillage. You need to be close to appreciate its beauty and you may have to spray more often to hold the fragrance longer on your skin.
Mugler Cologne is a nicely done fragrance on the overall. It's also a nice summer scent when the air is hot and dry. Or on days when you feel like taking it easy, dress down and not be the center of everybody else's olfactory radar.
